Upon successful completion of the Master of Advanced Nursing, you will have a broad scope of roles available to you. You’ll gain the leadership skills to achieve your career aspirations, whether it be stepping up into emerging roles in acute or chronic and complex care, or leading improvements in the quality and safety of patient care.

The types of roles you might advance into include: nurse manager, nurse manager resource allocation, after-hours nurse manager, clinical unit nurse manager, clinical nurse consultant, clinical nurse specialist and clinical nurse educator.

Study pathways

The School of Nursing and Midwifery offers five online Graduate Certificate courses that articulate into the Master of Advanced Nursing. This provides you with the opportunity to choose a specialisation pathway that is most aligned with your career goals.

A general option with no major is also available. Book a preferred time with a Student Enrolment Advisor to discuss a suitable study pathway.


Note: The option to progress to the masters is available to Registered Nurses only. There is also a pathway option from the Graduate Certificate in Nursing Education to the Master of Education (Learning and Leadership).

Program structure

UTS Online’s Master of Advanced Nursing is comprised of 12 subjects, specialising in one of the following:

Acute Care (major), Chronic and Complex Care (major), Quality and Safety (major), Critical Care (major), Mental Health (major).
