What you will study

The Master of Education (Learning and Leadership) comprises 12 online subjects (72 credit points in total) - nine core subjects and three electives.

Applicants with teacher education qualifications may be eligible to gain credit for four subjects (24 credit points). Refer to the Recognition of Prior Learning section for further information.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Your previous studies or employment experience can be acknowledged as credit towards your online postgraduate studies, provided that it meets the relevant course requirements.

Master of Education (Learning and Leadership) - with 24 credit points of RPL

Applicants may be granted RPL for up to 24 credit points (four subjects) if they hold:

a bachelor's degree and a postgraduate teacher education qualification including professional experience; or
a four-year pre-service teacher education qualification including professional experience.

The teacher education qualifications must be accredited by Australian teacher education regulatory authorities. In NSW, NESA is the regulatory authority and relevant degrees are listed at NESA. In other states and territories, similar authorities provide lists of accredited four-year degrees or postgraduate teaching qualifications.

Recognition of prior learning for these applicants is granted for all of the following:

12 credit points (two subjects) of electives
014222 Designing Innovative Learning
014226 Leading Innovative Practices

Other potential RPL

Applicants may be eligible for 12 credit points (two elective subjects) of RPL if they:

hold an adult education degree (e.g. TAFE/VET teachers, VET managers, learning and development professionals, health educators); and
hold a bachelor’s degree in the field of adult education; and
demonstrate four years of full-time relevant work experience.

Other RPL is assessed on a case-by-case basis and in line with the UTS Admissions and Recognition of Prior Learning Policy.

English Language Requirement

English language requirements apply to both international and domestic students. Please refer to the UTS English language requirements for further information on how to satisfy the requirements for the course/s.

The English proficiency requirement for local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL: paper-based: 550-583 overall with TWE of 4.5, internet-based: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.

Additional requirements

In addition to any documents required to meet the English language requirements mentioned above, applicants will need to provide their CV and evidence of related work experience, which can include a statement of service, business registration letter, letter from an accountant, or statutory declaration.

Entry requirements

To gain entry into the Master of Education (Learning and Leadership), applicants must have completed a UTS-recognised bachelor's degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies.

For applicants with an academic qualification, the qualification must be in any ASCED Field of Education group (01 to 10) and the applicants must have a minimum of two years' related professional work experience in the following ANZSCO groups - 01 Managers, 02 Professional, 03 Technicians and Trades Workers, 04 Community and Personal Service Workers, 05 Clerical and Administrative Workers, and 06 Sales Workers.

Related work experience is assessed according to the response provided by applicants in the employment question on their application and CV.

Applicants who do not satisfy these requirements may still be considered for admission via the assessment of a CV and personal statement which outlines the applicant's interest in, and understanding of, the course.

Note: Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements for the Masters may use the successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Education (Learning and Leadership) or the Graduate Certificate in Professional and Organisational Learning as a pathway, provided they meet the specific entry requirements.
