Upon successful completion of the Graduate Diploma in Psychology, you may apply for the Graduate Diploma in Psychology (Advanced).

Who is this course for?

The UTS Online Graduate Diploma in Psychology (Advanced) is for professionals who want to build a career in psychology to drive positive change in communities, organisations and the lives of individuals.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be eligible to apply for your master's degree in psychology. Once you are enrolled into your master's, you will be eligible to apply for provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.

What you will study

The UTS Online Graduate Diploma in Psychology (Advanced) comprises six subjects (48 credit points [CP] in total).

CORE SUBJECTS

Complete all of the following subjects:

  • Psychological Science Career Readiness
  • Advanced Professional Skills and Ethical Issues in Psychology
  • Advanced Psychological Assessment and Intervention
  • Advanced Research Methods
  • Research Project A*
  • Research Project B*

*Subjects are double the weighting and duration of the standard 6 CP subjects.

Students who complete the Graduate Diploma in Psychology, may qualify to advance to the Graduate Diploma in Psychology (Advanced) requiring only 6 additional subjects to complete.

Learning outcomes

Theory and practice

Demonstrate knowledge of psychological theory and practice in local and global communities. Reflect on the knowledge, skills and attributes required for the evaluation and integration of emerging evidence into practice.

Psychological science and research

Apply knowledge of psychometric theory to the implementation and interpretation of widely used psychological tests and complete an independent research project and thesis demonstrating advanced knowledge of qualitative or quantitative research methods and data analytic techniques.

Ethical practice

Employ appropriate values and ethical standards in psychological research and practice.

Communication skills

Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, including interpersonal and interview skills appropriate to psychological practice.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have completed one of the following UTS-recognised qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree ​ 
  • Graduate Diploma​ 

All applicants must have completed the following in the last 10 years: ​ 

  • An Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited Level 1 program in psychology (or equivalent) with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5.0 out of 7.​ 

Psychology qualifications from overseas must be assessed by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) as equivalent to an APAC accredited Level 1 program in Psychology. This assessment must be included in the application.
