UTS shines in global rankings

The latest global subject rankings are in, and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has once again proven its world-class standing. The ShanghaiRanking’s 2025 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects recognises UTS for its excellence across 17 subjects, placing the university in the top 100 worldwide.

These results highlight the strength of UTS academics, whose commitment to high-quality education and impactful research continues to shape industries, communities, and the future workforce. From artificial intelligence and computer science to nursing and business, UTS continues to outperform much larger universities on the world stage.

Leaders in nursing and AI

Two standout achievements reinforce UTS’s global reputation:

  • Nursing ranked 5th in the world, reflecting UTS’s innovative approach to healthcare education, simulation-based learning, and strong clinical partnerships.
  • Artificial Intelligence ranked 8th globally, positioning UTS at the forefront of a rapidly evolving field that is transforming every sector of the economy.

These results underscore UTS’s commitment to advancing knowledge and technology that will drive the future of healthcare, automation, and intelligent systems.

Excellence in engineering and computer science

UTS has further cemented its position as a global leader in technology, engineering, and applied sciences, with several subjects placing in the top 50 worldwide:

  • Telecommunications Engineering – 29th
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering – 34th
  • Computer Science and Engineering – 42nd
  • Instruments Science and Technology – 50th

These rankings reflect UTS’s deep expertise in developing the technologies, systems, and infrastructure that support modern society.

Strong performance across business, science and industry

Beyond the top 50, UTS achieved consistent strength across a wide range of disciplines. Eight subjects placed in the 51–75 band, including:

  • Business Administration
  • Chemical Engineering

A further three subjects ranked in the 76–100 band:

The ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects assesses around 2,000 universities worldwide across 57 subjects in natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences.
