UTS climbs in global university rankings for 2025

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has solidified its standing as a world-leading institution in the 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). The latest results place UTS in the top 201-300 band globally, a testament to its growing research strength and academic excellence.

A leader at home and abroad

This significant achievement positions UTS firmly among the world's elite universities. Within Australia, the university now ranks in the top 9-13 group, highlighting its strong performance in the nation's competitive higher education sector.

This result reflects the university's commitment to producing high-quality, impactful research. The ARWU evaluates institutions on six key indicators, including:

  • The number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals.
  • The volume of highly cited researchers.
  • Papers published in top-tier journals like Nature and Science.
  • The number of papers indexed in major citation indices.

UTS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andrew Parfitt, celebrated the achievement, noting it was a result of the collective dedication of the university's talented staff and researchers.

“This strong performance in another major global ranking is further evidence UTS is being recognised for the excellence in our research and academic performance.”
