UTS ranks among the world’s top universities for sustainability


The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has once again cemented its place as a global leader in sustainability, ranking 47th globally and 5th in Australia in the 2025 QS Sustainability Rankings. This ranking highlights UTS's dedication to addressing the world’s most pressing environmental, social and governance (ESG) challenges.
UTS sustainability rankings – 2025 overview
The QS Sustainability Rankings assessed 1,744 higher education institutions worldwide, evaluating them across various ESG indicators. Here’s how UTS performed:

29th for social impact globally (7th in Australia): UTS is a leader in promoting equality, employment opportunities, knowledge exchange and health and wellbeing.

73rd for environmental impact globally (5th in Australia): UTS’s sustainability initiatives and research have earned recognition for reducing its environmental footprint.

19th for governance globally (1st in Australia): UTS’s governance practices in education, research and operations have set the benchmark in Australia.
UTS has shown tremendous progress, moving up from 43rd in 2024 and 69th in 2023, highlighting its unwavering commitment to sustainability.
Additionally, UTS was ranked 13th globally in the 2024 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, solidifying its status as a pioneer in sustainability in higher education.

UTS’s strong commitment to ESG principles
UTS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andrew Parfitt, expressed immense pride in the university’s achievements:
